Two suspected armed robbers, a Kogi State Polytechnic student and a Professional footballer , have been nabbed by the Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja Command of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, over a foiled attempted robbery.
Parading the suspects before the Press in Abuja at the weekend in Abuja, the new Commissioner of Police, CP of the Command, CP Sadiq Abubakar Sadiq Bello said that the duo were ambushed and arrested at Zuba fly-over, a suburb of Abuja, by operatives from Zuba Division following a tip-off.
The CP stated that preliminary investigation had showed that the duo were on their way to Minna, Niger State Capital for a major robbery operation when they were apprehended by the Police.
According to him, “the duo of Suleiman Hamisu ‘m” from Kogi State and Nura Muhammad ‘m” from Kastina State were arrested in possession of: one berretta pistol, one locally made revolver pistol and six rounds of 9mm live ammunitions. ”
He said that the suspects and the exhibits recovered from them have been transferred to the Command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad, (SARS) for discreet investigation and prosecution.
Sadiq Bello who incidentally assumed duty on the day of the incident while warning all criminals operating in the Nation’s Capital City and its environments to quit immediately in their interest called on the residents to partner with the Police in the fight against crime and criminality in the Command.
According to him, “policing is a collective responsibility, and for us to get it right in FCT, all and sundry must come and partner with the Police through the provision of timely information or advice on how to effectively fight crime.”
He said that his major priority for now was to see to the reduction of crime to the dearest minimum through the co-operation of the residents of the FCT and its environs.
The duo of the suspects who admitted while speaking with the Press that they were arrested with all the exhibits however claimed that they were forced by one Alhaji now on the run to take the Parcel for him for onward delivery to another person in Minna unknown to them that it contained ammunitions.
