Following the crisis that followed the installation of 21 new kings in Ibadan by Governor Abiola Ajimobi, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes has constituted an emergency committee to ensure peaceful resolution of differences between the feuding parties.
Last week, gunmen stormed the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adtunji, during the installation of new baales.
A statement from the reconciliatory committee, signed by the Prelate Emeritus, Methodist Church of Nigeria, His Eminence Ola Makinde; the Aare Musulumi of Yoruba land, Daud Akinola, and CCII President-General, Chief Adeyemi Soladoye said the committee met with Ajimobi, the Olubadan, the Osi Olubadan of Ibadan, Rashidi Ladoja, and the Iyalode of Ibadan, Aminat Abiodun, to find a lasting solutions to the issue.
“Following the worrisome dimension introduced into the Olubadan Chieftaincy Review issue, CCII called an emergency meeting of key groups in Ibadan with a view to finding peaceful and sustainable solutions to the controversies that surrounded the crowning of new kings on August 27, 2017.
The visitation panel secured the agreement of each of the key stakeholders to attend an all-inclusive reconciliatory meeting as proposed by the committee. It was agreed that each of the stakeholders and their followers or political parties would refrain from making statements that might heat up the situation,” the statement said.
It added that a 15-man Truth and Reconciliation Committee comprising five members from the CCII, three each from the Christian and Muslim communities and four from the Elders Council, which would be headed by a respected elder in the city was set up to meet the key stakeholders in the next meeting.
