ABUJA-FIFTY-five personnel of the Nigerian Air Force have been trained locally on various skill acquisition programmes.
These ranged from lathe mining operations and general maintenance, laser cutting, networking tools and techniques, repair of electronic circuits, electronic testing and diagnostics to cabling and looming techniques.
The training which the Air Force carried out in collaboration with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI,according to a statement from the Nigerian Air Force through its Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Olatukunbo Adesanya, was in a bid to intensify its capacity building efforts,
The service disclosed that by opting to embark on the programme locally, it’s spent less than N6 million just as it said the training gave the NAF personnel the capacity to reproduce some spares locally and also carry out more in-depth repairs of electronics items that were hitherto shipped overseas.
Ordinarily, the training would have gulped huge resources in foreign currency, if conducted overseas . but by collaborating with NASENI, the NAF completed the training of the 55 personnel with less than N6 million, “it said.
It said the partnership with NASENI was expected to enhance the effectiveness of aircraft maintenance in the NAF as well as boost the Research and Development efforts of the Service.
The training of the NAF personnel, the statement said, was in tandem with one of the key drivers of the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, which is “Strategic partnerships with MDAs for enhanced Research and Development”.
The training was completed last week and the trained personnel have been deployed as appropriate.
The training, which took place at the 7 centres in NASENI, was aimed at further raising the level of technical manpower in the NAF through collaboration with relevant local institutions.
