Ayodele Fayose, Ekiti State governor, has broken his silence over the fire incident that gutted his car recently in Lagos.
He claimed on Tuesday that his exotic car was actually set ablaze.
Although the governor was silent on who was behind the act and for what reason, he, however, said he had resigned to fate on the matter.
His Mercedes Benz G-Wagon was burnt beyond repairs in Lagos recently.
Speaking on a monthly Radio and Television Programme monitored by INDEPENDENT in Ado-Ekiti, Fayose said he was neither swayed nor distracted by the incident, and he thanked God for saving his life.
“Some people went and set fire to my car. Anyway, I don’t want to go into the controversy now.
“I am leaving everything in the hands of God, because where there is life, there is hope.
“Who says I cannot even buy a better car?”
Fayose who also hinted that he would not want to dissipate energies on his presidential ambition, however, said working for the election of his successor was paramount in his heart.
With a reliable successor, Fayose said, all other political exploits would be made easy for him.
The governor said he was not chasing shadows and urged doubting Thomases to wait until when the presidential ambition would be realised.
He also expressed optimism that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his preferred candidate, Kolapo Olusola, would win the 2018 governorship election in the state.
Speaking on the upsurge of cult activities in Ekiti State University, Fayose said security agents had been placed on the alert to secure some points in the state that some people wanted to turn to kidnapping spots.
The governor who expressed disgust at the killing of Ojo Segun penultimate Monday and the killing Monday, this week, of Ayodele Temilade, both of EKSU, vowed that the culprits would not go unpunished.
He said: “We won’t allow anybody to tarnish the image of EKSU and the state.
“We have been experiencing peace in the state and the recent killings are condemnable.
“The police will surely fish out the perpetrators. I won’t allow anybody to turn the institution into a place of bloodshed.
“I have told the management of the institution to stamp out cult activities.
“People sent to go and study should face their studies squarely.
“Also, security agents are monitoring the activities of some bad eggs who want to turn Ogotun-Igbaraoke-Ikere axis and Oye-Imojo-Ayede axis to kidnappers’ areas of operation.
“We are on top of the situation, and there is no hiding place for criminal elements in the state.”
While urging the public not to aid or abet criminals and their activities, he said some dedicated telephone lines had been made available for them to contact the police.
The lines are 09030002151, 09030002161, and 08062336577.
On the declining allocation to the state, Fayose accused the Federal Government of borrowing to fund its activities and using the income accruing to all tiers of government to service and repay such loans.
He added that he had taken the Federal Government to court on the matter.
He stated that the N2.4 billion that the state government got this month was not enough to pay workers’ salaries.
According to him, what came to the 16 local governments would also not be able to meet their statutory obligations.
