Asaba – Determined to put smiles on the faces of widows, the Delta State Government has given a total sum of over N27 million to 5,555 widows in the state.
The beneficiaries, who are drawn from the 25 local council areas of the state, will also benefit from the Contributory Health Care Health Scheme of the state government.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa said that the scheme would take care of the financial and health needs of the widows in the state, as only a healthy people, the governor explained, can contribute to the wealth and development of the state.
Represented by Nicholas Azinge, the commissioner for health, Okowa added that the initiative was in fulfillment of his campaign mantra of prosperity to the people, which he was determined to fulfill notwithstanding the dwindling resources.
The governor told the women to access the health scheme at the nearest health centres and hospitals. He also said that they should promptly report anybody who charges them money for treatment.
“Today, we are here to witness another milestone in the health care system in the state – the welfare scheme, which is designed for selected widows in the state. The state government will pay for their premiums monthly.
