The CEO of Monarch Promotions, Stanley Williams, has promised a bigger and better promotion of BoxFest, a boxing event meant to provide fight fans with live professional boxing contests.
The maiden edition was held on April 7 at Eko Hotels Convention Hall, Lagos but Williams said memories of the event lingers on weeks, after some scintillating displays by the boxers.
“This is not going to be a one-off show, this is just like a test for us, boxing fans should expect something bigger and better from Monarch Promotions in the coming months,” he stated.
DeMarcus ‘Chop Chop’ Corley of USA, who once went the distance against Floyd Mayweather, won a hard-fought 12-round fight against Patrick ‘El Elegante’ Lopez of Venezuela in the main event.
Corley displayed the prowess and staying power that has helped him to subdue many opponents over the years to win the vacant World Boxing Union Lightweight world title.
In the first bout of the event, Cynthia Ogunsemilore beat Habibat Ismail over four rounds in a National Featherweight challenge contest, while Nigeria’s Sule Olagbade beat Ghanaian Stephen Okine by TKO in round 6 to win the vacant West Africa Boxing Union Light Middleweight title in the second fight.
In the third bout, England-based Nigerian, Tony Salam, defeated Eugen Buchmueller of Germany via a unanimous decision during their international contest.
Another Nigerian, King Davidson, who is based in Australia, defeated Ishmael Tetteh of Ghana via a unanimous decision for the vacant World Boxing Union Middleweight title.
Paul Valenzuela Jr of Mexico got a split decision win over American Aaron Coley to annex the WBU middleweight world title.
