Sunshine Queens coach Wemimo Mathew has said the team’s target is to hold their place at the top of the Group B of the Nigeria Women’s Premier League, which will help them qualify for the league’s Super 4 at the end of the season.
Sunshine are on top of the table in Group B of the abridged league with 16 points after seven matches. They have won five, drawn one and lost one match this season.
Wemimo told our correspondent on the telephone during the week that the club has experienced and young players to maintain their place at the top of the table and qualify for the Super 4.
The coach said the players were dedicated and ready to win all their matches in when the second half of the season begin.
“Our plan is to take every match seriously and to make sure that we get the three points in the matches we play both at home and away. These points will help us to sustain our lead at the top of the group,” Wemimo said.
“The girls are ready to work because they are young and experienced. They have been playing together for a while now. They want to make their name and are ready to play in Super 4. When we get to the Super 4, we can now fight for the league title.”
The coach commended the referees for their efforts in the first half of the season, adding that there was more to be done for the officiating to meet up with international standards.
