Speaking on the issue while announcing the outcome of the presidential primaries conducted in the state, the governor said he was fully prepared to slug it out with other contestants.
“I want to correct the negative impression that I am afraid of Direct primaries. I am not afraid of direct primaries as speculated by other governorship aspirants on the platform of APC.
“I am ready to confront other contestants in direct primaries and people of Bauchi are also ready,” he said.
Speaking on the presidential primaries, the governor said President Mohammadu Buhari polled 786,032 votes in Bauchi out of the 825,380 members that were accredited.
Flood Disaster: Bayelsa Community Seeks Govt, Stakeholders’ Intervention
Residents of Ovom Community in Bayelsa have appealed for assistance from government and other stakeholders following the flooding, which submerged more than 70 houses, schools and Churches in the area.
Some of the residents and victims, who were seen making concerted effort to relocate from the affected area, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.
They stated that flooding in Ovom Community in Yenagoa Local Government Area had become a worrisome development, requiring urgent intervention from government and other relevant stakeholders.
Mrs Ebi Robinson, a victim, told NAN that the water level became a threat when it started flowing into their homes.
“You can see things by yourself because right now, I am leaving with my family to some other place.
“Most of our property have been damaged and we don’t have food, but I thank God that no live has been lost.
“My Children are no longer going to school; we are begging the government to come and help us,” she said.
A teacher from Adonia Foundation International Academy, who spoke on ground of anonymity, said the school had to be closed to prevent loss of lives.
“In fact all the schools and Churches here are already over flooded. There is nothing we can do other than to close down; we need help from the government in terms of roads and proper drainage,” the teacher said.
An official of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), who also preferred to remain anonymous, told NAN that Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) camps had been built in parts of the state.
“We have camp at Biseni, Trofani in Sagbama Local Government Area and we have also erected tents for IDPs in Egbebiri community, among others.
“The Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) team has been on alert to ensure that every community is covered.
“For Yenagoa axis, yes, we fully know that the flood has affected some parts, but Yenagoa still has a lot of upland areas where people can relocate to,” the official said.
