ABUJA – Han Sungrae, director of Korean Cultural Centre of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nigeria, has advanced reasons why a Korean crime thriller movie “One Line” was shown at the centre, in Abuja on Wednesday.
Sungrae said the airing of the film was one of the key points marking the November Culture Day of the KCCN.
The director of KCCN explained that each month, “the centre explores an aspect of Korean culture” for Nigerians to keep abreast of.
“The aim is to find more ways of promoting understanding of Korean culture in order to further strengthen bilateral ties between our both countries.
“This year, in every two months, the centre screens a Korean film to bring the best of Korean cinema to Nigerians,” Sungrae stated.
In a statement made available to DAILY INDEPENDENT, Sungrae gave a synopsis of “One Line”, which was aired at the centre to students and the public.
The movie “is about a broke college student who meets a legendary swindler. Then the student joins the swindler’s team and enters the world of mortgage fraud with great success.
“Though their heistS are successful, the members of the team don’t trust each other and jealousy arises. What will happen to them” was better imagined.
Korean singer/actor Im Si-wan starred as Min-Jae (university student), Jin Goo featured as Suk-goo (legendary swindler), Park Byung-eun starred as Ji-won, Ahn Se-ha as Detective Chin etc.
The film released on March 29, 2017 was produced by Kwak Joong-hoon; while the screenplay and director was Yang Kyeong-mo.
Speaking after the movie show, Meeyon Jee, KCCN consultant, said the movie showcased how a group of professional con artists scammed poor, unsuspecting citizens with fraudulent bank loans.
Jee said the centre started screening Korean films at the cultural centre due to demand of some Nigerians.
“In response to the demand, we now screen Korean movies every two months at the Korean Cultural Centre.
