Nigeria is among the top 25 countries in the world with the highest number of international students studying in The United States.
The number of international students in the United States surpassed one million for the third consecutive year, increasing by 1.5 percent to reach a new high of 1,094,792, according to the 2018 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange. Open Doors 2018, released recently by the Institute of International Education (IIE) and Nigeria is among the top countries adding to the numbers.
According to the 2018 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange data released recently by IIE and the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Nigeria is among the top 25 countries in the world with the highest number of internatonal students studying in The United States..
The country was ranked the 13th country with Highest Number of International Students Studying in the US and the first in Africa.
The report which was released on Tuesday, November 13 shows the number of international students in the United States increased by 8.2% over the prior year, while the number of American students studying in Nigeria increased by 281 percent from the prior year.
The top countries with the highest number of international students studying in the United States includes :
China – 363,341 students
India – 196,271 students
South Korea – 54,555 students
Saudi Arabia – 44,432 students
Canada – 25,909 students
Vietnam – 24,325 students
Taiwan – 22,454 students
Japan – 17,753 students
Mexico – 15,468 students
Brazil – 14,620 students
Nepal – 13,220 students
Iran – 12,783 students
and then Nigeria – 12,693 students
According to the report some of the reasons behind the increased numbers of students include increased awareness about U.S. college and university application process among students, parents, and educators, partnerships with U.S. higher education institutions etc.
