•Tasks prisoners on godliness
The joy of inmates of the Kirikiri Maximum prison in Lagos knew no bounds last Thursday as the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) commissioned the refurbished prison hospital.
The church also donated food items to the inmates.
Dedicating the multi-million hospital, National Overseer of the church, Pastor Joseph Obayomi, who represented the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, said the RCCG took over and upgraded the hospital fully stocked with drugs, with state-of-the-art medical equipment, including x-ray machine.
At the occasion, which coincided with the 2018 Kirikiri Maximum Prison end of the year service, he urged the inmates not to lose hope, but rather put their fate in God’s hands.
The RCCG National Overseer also charged the inmates to embrace truth and be focused despite their present predicament, promising the church will not relent in assisting them to harness their potentials while in prison and even beyond the wall.
Officer-in-Charge of the Kirikiri Maximum Prison, DCP Emmanuel Oluwaniyi thanked the RCCG for their continue support over the years.
He said the prison used to be a place of condemnation where people rejected by the society were dumped but through efforts of the RCCG and its General Overseer, it has become a place of reformation where inmates get a second chance.
DCP Oluwaniyi said while the RCCG has done so much to make life meaningful for inmates, he would still urge the church to do more for the inmates, especially in the area of skill acquisition.
This, he said, would enable the inmates to re-integrate into the society after they have served their terms as most of them always come back to return to prison because they have nothing to fall back on when released.
He said some of them have become graduates while still in prison while many have also been trained in one skill or the other.
The chapel pastor, Tunwashe Kabiru, appreciated the church on behalf of all the inmates.
He said the bi-annual divine visitation by Adeboye has always been a time of expectations and blessing for the inmates.
