Corruption and indiscipline have become the bane of our society. It is a common practice which entails all forms of shady deals and dishonesty.
Corry and terrorism are one serious problem embedded together that is plaguing our economic and of course our security system today.
Obviously, corruption and indiscipline have evil effects on our society. It has a double edged effect on the citizens engaging in it and the Nigerian society at large. The first evil effect of corruption and indiscipline on the citizens and the nation is that it kills the conscience of the people involved in it and also enslave the nation to sabotage, national disrepute and also result in alarming rate of internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Similarly, societal influence has caused decline in the level of discipline in our youths, because the society encourages indiscipline and roll out drums to welcome looters from prison and the oversees.
Thieves and those who acquire material wealth by crooked means are praised instead of being treated with scorn. This has made them to embrace all sorts of bad conducts like bribery, embezzlement, fraud and forgery which they believe is what the people wants,we are our own poison.
However, can the situation be altered?, What future awaits us?,I still believe that there must be a way out.
After all, when there is life, there is hope. This means that if we want to eradicate corruption and indiscipline amongst our leaders, all hands must be on deck.
The home which is the nucleus of the society and the government must be ready and committed to inculcate discipline in our country, Nigeria. The future of our country depends on how we reprimand all forms of indiscipline today.
In addition, good virtues should be embraced to protect the image of our fathers land. The pride of our past heroes lies on our exemplary display of discipline, honesty, unity, peace and progress.
Apart from this, there has been a great increase in moral decadence in the country.
Many Nigerians, especially youths are insatiable in their desire to get rich quickly.
Bribery is the order of the day while embezzlement of public funds by government officials is prevalent in the country nowadays.
This development has become a matter of constant discussion on radio, television and newspapers. Its social evils have dangerously threatened the very existence of our society and is now smelling like a bad sore.
The causes of these social maladies can be traced to the warped or twisted societal values of our society. Nigerians do not cherish hard work and diligence nowadays. Those who acquire material wealth by theft are praised and honoured, while the hardworking but poor people are neglected simply because they do not have money.
Therefore, as a result of this, many Nigerians do not believe in hard work and perseverance. An average Nigerian is greedy and everybody wants to own and ride a Bentley and all flashy cars at all costThey want to possess as many houses as possible and many servants in their empires as their greedy minds desire.
This has led to many Nigerians, especially youths to engage in various forms of social evil like armed robbery, cyber crime, bribery and corruption and so on. All that they want is to acquire wealth, in most cases, by crooked means since material wealth acquisition speaks louder and gets accolades than good virtues and values, like hardwork and honesty.
The Nigerian government, at various levels,do not help matters too as top government functionaries and officials embezzle public funds at will. Public funds are diverted to personal vises and policemen collect bribes from drivers, smugglers and even from armed robbers.
Honesty is no longer the best policy. The honest man now finds out with great disappointment, that he is a misfit for the society.
However, the Nigerian Nation should change its values and put honesty and hardwork above any other thing. The government should put into practice the principle of reward and punishment. And it should be stipulated that anybody found guilty of committing any of these social maladies should be given optimum punishment and justice should prevail.
Finally, government should reward honesty and query I’ll gotten wealth and all hands should be on deck to take Nigeria to her real state of peace and harmony.
We were made united in our diversity, so we should all be responsible for the growth of our dearest fatherland, Nigeria.
