Benin – Ahead of next month general elections, a civil war veteran, Col. Paul Ogbebor (retd) has cautioned Nigeria leaders, politicians and their followers not to truncate the democracy which the country has enjoyed for nearly 20 years.
Ogbebor who made the appeal during a thanksgiving/reception party to mark the end of 2018 which was organised by his children at the weekend in Benin City used the occasion to affirm his support for the re-election of president Muhammadu Buhari.
Ogbebor urged candidates of the various political parties to restrain themselves from inciting and provocative statements that can undermine the unity of Nigeria which he fought for during the Civil war of 1967 to1970.
According to him, “politicians and their supporters should shun acts that can truncate democracy in Nigeria which living and fallen heroes and fellow patriots laboured to achieve.
He however commended Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki for prudent management of resources, thereby enhancing the fortunes of the State.
He said the foundation for good governance laid by the Governor, account for ongoing infrastructural development and job creation in Edo State.
He said Obaseki’s reforms has rekindled the hopes of the citizenry who had undergone painful socio-economic pressures of life beyond the reach of reason and concerns for decency in the society.
