Uyo – Emmanuel Udom, the Akwa Ibom State governor, has commissioned an art gallery at the University of Uyo to showcase the works of the first female Professor of Fine Arts in the country, late Professor Stella Idiong.
The art gallery was built by the family of the late Professor of Fine and Industrial Arts 10 years after her demise as a monument to showcase her works and also promote art in the institution.
Speaking at the main campus of the University in Uyo where the gallery is located, Governor Udom commended Professor Enefiok Essien, the vice-chancellor of the university, for allowing the initiators of the gallery to build the arts centre in the school.
The governor, who is a son-in-law to the late professor praised the VC for maintaining peace in the campus and promised to support developmental projects in the ivory tower.
“I also want to thank you for the peace in the campus. Not all campuses are as peaceful as the University of Uyo. Whenever you see the peace of this nature, it is leadership. Let me thank the members of this committee that put up the fine and international work here, the family and everybody.
