Awka – Anambra lawmakers have said that Nigerians were no longer safe and secure in President Muhammadu Buhari’s government following unabated massacre of innocent citizens across the country by Fulani herdsmen.
The lawmakers who spoke to journalists in Awka at the weekend, posited that the incessant security breaches in the country portrayed the inability of the current Federal Government to guarantee security of lives and property of the citizenry.
One of the lawmakers, Hon. Benson Nwawulu of Ogbaru 1 State Constituency, maintained that the president’s second term aspiration was insignificant to Nigerians as what was paramount to them was the security of lives and property of the citizenry.
Nwawulu noted that the killings and destruction of public places by killer herdsmen was getting out of hand and that President Muhammadu Buhari should rise up to the challenges confronting his government, adding that he was not being properly advised by his lieutenants.
Hon. Uche Okafor of Ayamelum State Constituency on his part said that the hearts of Nigerians were bleeding over the current spate of insecurity in the country, lamenting that while people were being killed in Benue State, the President was busy commissioning projects in Bauchi.
Okafor maintained that the act of killing is a crime against humanity and that the act of invading a church was a sacrilege and profanation of the temple of God. He said that President Buhari should rise up to the situation and prove to Nigerians that he was not backing the activities of killer herdsmen across the country.
Hon. Chugbo Enwezor of Onitsha-North 1 State Constituency maintained that there was anarchy in the land due to what he saw as human beings being slaughtered like goats and cows by herdsmen.
He said the president appeared to be insensitive to the plight cast on Nigerians by killer herdsmen.
Consequently, he urged him to uphold his constitutional obligation of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians across the country.
Hon. Pete Ibida, on his part said that the lawmaker representing Njikoka 2 State Constituency noted that there was no time for rhetoric any more but time to march words with actions so that people would no longer be maimed or killed on account of the activities of killer herdsmen.
He said that Nigerians were under threat and no longer safe in the country.
Dr. Timothy Ifedioramma representing Njikoka 1 State Constituency while reacting to the incessant killings of scores of Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen, stated that the activities of the cattle herders were unacceptable and condemnable.
He explained that the primary purpose of government is to protect lives and property but the current Federal Government has failed the nation in the execution of its constitutional responsibility.
